The Day Ligare Met Dalí…. An Untold Story Worth Framing
I’ve been building David Ligare’s website since 2007. Seventeen years of uploading new paintings, tinkering with typography, and swapping stories over lunch. Somewhere along the way, David stopped being just a client, he became a friend. And when you’re friends with a painter who reveres classical order but once crossed paths with the grand wizard of surrealism, you start hearing the really good stories.
This one is my favorite.
David was still a teenager, an art-student kid with more curiosity than bravado, when he found himself face-to-face with Salvador Dalí. Yes, that Dalí, the mustache, the cape, the human embodiment of a fever dream.
It was one of those small collisions that only later ripples across a life. David describes the moment with the same even-keeled warmth he has for everything: no theatrics, just a brush with genius that lodged itself quietly in his memory.
So here's the conversation I had yesterday with David.
